CVS - Free Organix

If you didn't already take advantage of the FREE Organix Shampoo or Conditioner (found at Walgreens and Target - at least), then I found some styling gel/spritz/something-or-another at CVS with the "Try Me Free" tags on them... If you have some expiring ECBs, this would be the perfect thing to pick up!

FREE Iams puppy food at Wal-Mart

The Iams Naturals puppy food is $5.00 a bag at Wal-Mart.

Today at JCPenney - FREE BOWLS!

YAY! FREE BOWLS!

I eat so much cereal that I find I can't clean my bowls fast enough. So, I went to JCPenney with my $5 coupon (I also registered my father and dragged him along with another $5 coupon). Anyway, how cute are these bowls? They were $9.99 each on sale for $4.99. Best part is...I had my wallet open to get ready to pay the sales tax on it...NOPE! And BONUS - the receipts have a 15% coupon off my next purchase! So, I'm thinking I'll register Jason and Mom and go back to get 2 more to have a full set!

MORE FROZEN FOOD CLEARANCE AT WALGREENS!

Even more frozen food clearance at Walgreens:
Edy's Ice Cream is on sale buy one get one free through tomorrow. I've heard from a few readers now that some of the flavors are on clearance for $3.14 and still ringing up buy one get one free... which means each carton of ice cream is ONLY$1.57! YAY! Some of the flavors to look for are Butterfinger, Fudge Tracks and Chocolate Peanut Butter... yum!

I've also heard that the Edy's All Natural Strawberry Fruit bars (pack of 6) that were originally $4.29 are now ringing in at $1.07!

Haagen Dazs Vanilla & Almonds bars originally priced at $4.29, now possibly ringing in at $1.07 too!

Make sure, I repeat, make sure to have a cashier price check the items for you. At my Walgreens they are almost NEVER marked, but still ring up for less. All those Jack's Frozen pizzas I bought were marked at $3.00 and rang out at $1.09, so definitely price check items.

Me and Starbucks

As God as my witness, I have not purchased a single drink at Starbucks since I have become unemployed. I brought a coupon into Caribou Coffee once - but got it free since I was speaking there. So, there you have it. Now I'm hooked on Mountain Dew!

Walgreens Cashiers

I know a lot of you have been stopping by my blog, so I just wanted to say 'thanks' for always taking my coupons and showing interest in my weekly deals. I love all my Walgreens cashiers - you know who you are!

No, sorry, this does NOT include you - you old, blonde over-makeup'd beeotch - I know that's just bad hair dye...you're probably grey. And yes, I WILL go over to cosmetics and check out EVERY time I see you at the front cashier - no matter if there is NO ONE there. You just suck like that.

Thursday Morning Markdown @ L.L.Bean

Every Thursday L.L. Bean drastically marks down the price on one selected item.

Today, and today only, you can get All Day Comfort Clogs for $19.99 (reg. $64). They are available in four different colors. Be sure to check the size chart to convert to your size!

There's more....I can't be certain the following code will work for you, but it's worth a try for FREE shipping : 3003260

And don’t forget, next week we’ll be bringing back the big $$ coupons and we’ve got tricks up our stylish sleeves that will make it the most fun search yet!

FREE Disney Dining **RUMOR**

More details to come over the next couple of days.....

(Source: TouringPlans.com)
Free dining to return August 16 - October 3, 2009
Our sources say that Disney will announce late summer free dining packages for Disney Visa cardholders on March 26, and to the general public on March 30. Travel dates are August 16 through October 3, 2009.

This is typically the WDW Travel Companies best promotion all year. This rumor is being reported by many WDW fan sites so I believe it to be true. I hope to post updates as they become available.

Garage Sale Tips - Part Deux

If you didn't get a chance to read my first posting about garage sales, pleas go over HERE and read my tips for shoppers and sellers. Here is another round of tips (this time for shoppers only)...

There are two kinds of garage sales - the ones where people want to make money and the ones where people want to get rid of stuff. The object is to find the ones where people want to get rid of stuff.

Get a map and newspaper and map out your route. Photocopying a map from a phone book or printing one from the web works great. Using this method, you can easily visit 25 sales an hour. If you're a beginner you might hit neighborhoods you are familiar with first.

If at all possible, leave the kids at home. If you must take them use a baby backpack or an umbrella stroller to make it easier. Give older children 25 or 50 cents and let them see what good deals they can get. Kids love picking out gifts for grandparents, siblings, parents and other family and bargain hunting helps them learn about money. Bring snacks (animal crackers, cereals, crackers in plastic bag works well) and cold water for everyone and plan ahead for potty breaks. If you have children with you, it's best only to plan on hitting about five sales until you see how they do.

Wear cool, comfortable clothes. Bring lots of change and one dollar bills. Put your money in your pockets so you don't have to worry about carrying your purse. Also bring a tote bag in which to carry your finds as you walk.

When you find something you're not sure you want, pick it up and carry it around while you continue looking. Otherwise someone else may take it while you're trying to decide.

Always ask politely if they will come down on the price. Most of the time they will. Every once in a while some things are so reasonable that I do not feel right asking for less. Finding women's sweater's at $1.00 each isn't bad, but I still ask if they will take 50 or 75 cents. If I find a name brand sweater in perfect shape for 25 cents, I don't ask for less.

If there is something you really want, but the seller is asking more than you want to pay, offer them a lower price. If they say no, leave your name and number and ask them to consider selling it to you at your price if they still have it at the end of the day.

Always check items well for hard to see tears, stains, or breakage. Remember it is a garage sale so everything won't be perfect.

It is best to go early, but don't panic if you can't. Sometimes you get the best buys after lunch when sellers are tired and don't want to have to drag everything back into the house. It's great to go on the last day of a sale because most sellers will almost pay you to take things so they don't have to keep them.

If you don't have success in one part of town, try somewhere else the next time. Sometimes the best garage sale neighborhoods are the ones you don't expect.

Don't be embarrassed about buying at garage sales. Some of the wealthiest women in the world love garage sales - Martha Stewart and Oprah are among them! When you're done, go home, put up your feet and have a nice glass of ice cold lemonade. Grab the phone and call someone who will share the excitement and appreciate your good buys. Garage sales are like old fishing stories. Die-hards always brag about the one that got away!

...as a 'thank you' to all of my followers and those that have helped make this blog so successful, I will be doing a GIVEAWAY on my 1000th post.
Yes, I know, I spoil you guys!

HA! You guys CRACK ME UP!

Okay, so already an email wondering what my freezer looks like...

If you missed the posting on the Dominick's $0.97 per pound Chicken Breasts a few weeks ago, I'll tell you now I have a deep freezer. I found it on eBay or Craig's List (not sure which one) for $250 (AMAZING DEAL!)

Anyway, the freezer is no more organized than the rest of the house - and yes, I zoomed in on the Jack's pizzas for you to see I DID get them!

Here's the deep freezer (strategically placed in the laundry room next to the dog and cats food?)

Here is the freezer (who knows what lurks below the surface).

Yep, the Jack's pizzas...all 30-something of them...

And then the upstairs freezer and fridge...I love that a Lean Cuisine remains front and center in the freezer...I don't even REMEMBER the last time I ate one of those. Or how about the fact that jello is in the vegetable bin and the carrots are next to the bottle of water that is falling over?

And my favorite hidden treasure (that I didn't even notice until I uploaded this picture)...is on the left side of the fridge (OUTSIDE of the fridge), I saw that little orange box. See it? It's the "Off Lantern candles and refills". Um, those are REALLY expensive...BONUS PACK! hahahaaaaaaa

My 'stockpile' and my 'pantry'

In case you haven't already noticed, there aren't too many fabulous deals going on this week, so I am focusing most of my posts around everyone's questions that you email me.

So, a few of you have asked how big my pantry is that I can stockpile like this...first of all, I find it funny that you think I have a pantry. LOL - I shove it where it fits.

I have posted a few pictures here to show you my lack of space and organization when it comes to stockpiling.

Here is my 'pantry' (also known as the cabinet above the microwave). Clearly I just shove any random anything in there - from tupperware, to cereal, to rice and chips. I can't even tell you what's behind those ziploc bags (mainly cuz I can't reach).

Here's my 'bar'...it's the ledge going down the stairs to my basement.

Here is 'the rest of my bar'...it's cases of water and pop strewn all over.

Here is our 'linen closet'. It may LOOK organized, but that doesn't count if you don't use it. PLUS, I would like to note there are so much toilet paper and paper towels in front of this shelf that I can't even get to these items (good thing the camera has a zoom option).

This is my bathroom cabinet. I have enough shampoo, conditioner, body spray, shaving cream, and shower gel to clean everyone in the world.

Lastly, this is under the sink in the bathroom. Anyone need to wash their hands?

So, again, you don't need to be organized to have a nice stockpile. Besides, with the exception of the cases of water and pop, everything else is behind closed doors - no one knows how messy things really are. And on that note, I have actually heard of some people shoving in pots and pans in their kitchen cabinets...or even under their bed...hey, whatever works.

Take control of your lists with "Smart Shopper" - FOR CHEAP!

The SmartShopper is an electronic grocery list/errand organizer that is simplifying many busy lives. When these first hit the shelves, they were running around $150. Right now you can grab one of these at Amazon.com for under $30 shipped. If you've been wanting one, I'd say now's the time to get it!

Get rid of the post it notes, scraps of paper, and your memory with the SmartShopper. The SmartShopper is a electronic grocery list/to do list organizer. It is making my grocery list fun again.

Say it. Simply press the "record" button on the Smart Shopper and add items to your grocery list by speaking into it. While it comes with over 2,500 pre-loaded grocery items, you can customize it very easily. You would want to customize brand name items or items which may not be in the pre-loaded list.

Print it.When your list is complete, simple hit the print button and your list is printed in seconds.

Go get it. Then take your list, organized by categories and shop!

Since this has a built in magnet and is compact, I placed it in a central location on our refrigerator. This way anyone can add needed items to the list. If someone needs deodorant, then just speak into the SmartShopper and it is added to the list.

BEST OF ALL - If I have a coupon for an item, I can specify I have a coupon for that particular item and when the list prints it will designate that item as one with a coupon so money saving coupons are not forgotten.

In addition to adding grocery items, you can keep track of errands with the SmartShopper. You can create two separate lists if want to keep track of your errands or grocery items separately. If you track them together, errands will print at the top of the list.

This is a MUST HAVE product and a great gift idea. Get more organized and save time while shopping. You can watch the Smart Shopper in action below:

Free Easy Bakeware??!!! Not likely!

I know several of you have emailed me the deal about the Easy Bakeware for $1.00. I want to let everyone know that I am aware of the deal, but when I first heard of it a couple months ago, I did some research - as I do with EVERY deal I post up here because I don't like posting things with 'catches'.

Now, as far as the deal goes, if you pay the $1 shipping, you are signing up for another deal also that it says when you check that option. I just don't want anyone to get caught up in their little scheme. Also, it has been reported that they really seem to be scamming people by enticing them into a $1 shipping deal and either not shipping it or charging you to be part of some other scheme.

Sorry folks, I can't recommend their deal.

How to Save Money on Meat

I get asked a lot if my family buys meat. I guess when you're on a $30 per week budget, people assume we are vegetarians...WE ARE NOT!

Though you will rarely find coupons for meat, there are ways to cut your costs. Since most of these tips are about stocking up, most meats can be stored frozen for 3-4 months (longer than that starts to distorts taste and texture).

1. The best tip to save on meat is to wait for sales and stock up. Once you are stocked, continue to watch sales and break up your meat purchases so that you are buying chicken one week, beef another week etc. You don’t want to ruin your budget with a week of just meat purchases.

2. Find when your store does meat markdowns. The meat is still fine to eat or freeze, it just needs to be stored that day. The Kroger in my area does this every Monday morning. This is when I buy steaks. I can usually get 50-75% off high dollar cuts of steak. If it is a good markdown, then stock up on as many as they have or as many as you need.

3. Buy a Cow. Not kidding, really. Go in with 4 or more other friends (we went in with 2 other friends) and contact a local farm to see if they sell cows to individual groups (we actually got ours from the county fair). You will pay a per pound rate for the cow and will pay a butchering cost. Tell the butcher exactly what you are wanting, mostly ground beef, ground beef and steaks, roasts etc. Then split it all up. You will end up with probably around 80-90 pounds of beef per family. The savings ads up when you realize that for expensive cuts you paid the same per pound rate as your ground beef. We paid about $2.66 per pound and that included roasts, ground beef, and steaks.

4. Be your own butcher (not for #3). If you are willing to spend a little time with your meat you can save $2 per pound or more.
*Buy a pork tenderloin and make your own boneless pork chops. A tenderloin sale price is $1.99, boneless pork chops sale price is $3.99. (Most grocers will do this for you for free if you ask.)
*Remove the breast bone yourself from split chicken breasts. Boneless chicken breasts on sale are $1.99 lb, split breasts are .99¢ lb.
*If you are cooking steak for a few people, buy a London Broil and then cut it into thinly sliced strips. You will feed twice as many people than serving individual steaks.

5. If you are making casseroles or other meals with cut up meat use the cheapest form of that meat. No one will know you used chicken leg meat in your chicken casserole, or that you cut up a cube steak to make fajitas or stir fry.

6. Use leftover meat to make another meal. My husband managed to turn one ham into 4 different meals. Don’t want to eat ham 4 nights in row? You don’t have to. Make a casserole and freeze it to eat in a week or two...soups can also be frozen. The point is don’t cook the ham and just throw away the rest.

7. Use other purchases as “coupons” off your meat. If you see an item on the grocery deals list for that week that is a “FREE plus overage” item, you need to buy it. Buy as many as you have coupons for. If you can make $1 to buy Revlon tweezers, that is really $1 off your meat, milk, and other non coupon purchases. If you buy 10 Revlon tweezers that is $10 off your meat. Keep the tweezers you want and donate the others to shelters, or women’s ministries. I love my tweezer savings!

Free chocolate samples from skinny Candy

Reminder: Download Google's 'Auto Fill' so you don't have to type these forms out EVERY TIME!

Remember Your Coupon Order!

ALWAYS hand over manufacturer coupons first. This will not only avoid the registers from beeping, the cashier to get flustered, you don't get your sale, and the people behind you get mad.

So, avoid havoc and HAND OVER YOUR MANUFACTURER COUPONS FIRST...then store coupons.

Making a Menu is like putting an outfit together

Have you ever went shopping at a clothing store and choose and picked sale items you might not have something to wear them with. Maybe it’s a colored shirt you weren’t sure if you had shoes to match. Or a discounted sweater that may or may not work with that skirt.

Yes, you may have scored a great deal on the sale item, but if it just hangs in your closet and never wear it – it really wasn’t the best deal then. Was it?

Buying food for meals is something like this. When you pick and choose sale items, you need to ask yourself, can I use this. Will I use this? When am I going to use it?

The other week when I was shopping at Target for a few of their sales, I was able to score meat for $0.17. I used the $2 Sutton and Dodge coupon on a pound of the chuck roast on sale. I also was able to get frozen veggies for $0.67. Now, I can put these all together to make stir fry.

I had a plan. The biggest trap I see people falling into when they begin savings is that they buy buy buy because it’s on sale. But if they never use it, its money wasted.

You start to get a stockpile that you will never use and food may be wasted. Here is a great rule of thumb – SHOP YOURSELF FIRST!

Use what you have. The whole principle of savings is buy low and use later. USE IT!

I just want to encourage you to save those dollars and use up what you have!

If you shop the sales – that’s great, that’s how you should shop! Just have a plan for how you can use it. Don’t let that can of bean just sit on your shelf like the shirt on sale hanging in your closet that you never wore. Make tacos, burritos – wear it use it. Make each dollar that you spent, count!

I'm Married to a Coupon Queen

So last week I stopped in at a bar where a gentleman approached me and gave me a high five. With a confused look on my face, he said, "I have to do that EVERY DAY with my wife because she comes home with bags full of stuff telling me how she bought this on sale and used this coupon and got an ECB for this...and it was free". I laughed...histerically. He continued to say "I used to do my laundry with the cheapest laundry detergent out there, and now I'm using some high-end, smelly-good laundry detergent because it was free". I was STILL laughing. He continued to tell me how he just nods and smiles and gives high fives because he has NO IDEA what she is talking about when using 'coupon code'. This is not the first time this has happened and I love the random text messages and emails from all of you telling me about your big purchases every day. I guess I LIKE driving men crazy! :)

And on that note, LittleMissKnowItAll (a.k.a LMKIA) had her husband do a posting called "I'm Married to a Coupon Queen". He tells the other guys (a.k.a. ‘coupon widowers’) out there that they are not alone....

It has been said that during the World Cup (for non soccer fans think of the Superbowl, NBA finals and the World Series all rolled up in a four week extravaganza that takes place once every four years) the wife could walk naked into the room and I would not notice. This is true, but it no doubt would disturb my son. The same now can be said of my wife’s laptop and me. So when asked to write something about my experience living with a coupon queen I jumped at the chance to offer a public service announcement of sorts to other widowed spouses of coupon queens. By the way, do guys do this stuff? If so are they called Coupon Kings?

I do remember back to life before LMKIA was a coupon queen, and it was a life of chicken patties, beer and cereal. Since the coronation it is a life of chicken patties, beer and cereal…..only now a lot cheaper, or affordable….perhaps even free. Oh, we also now have the national toilet paper surplus in our basement along with enough shampoo to keep us clean until thing number 1 goes off to college. Side note: Chicken patties are now out because of some diet we are all now on, but the Federal government still checks in every so often to make sure we have enough TP in the national reserve for the next disaster.

Other than being well prepared for the next curry dinner it is nice to walk into a pantry and actually spend a long time deciding on what to eat. Not because you have to decide between oatmeal cream pies or crackers because that is all you have, but because you now have 20 different items to think about. Yes, I know, I’m sure the oatmeal cream pies are off the diet as well.

One benefit since the investiture is I no longer have to get the mail or the newspaper at the end of the driveway. They magically appear in the kitchen, often sitting in a stack of clippings (thank the Lord that the Sports section is no where near the Life/Coupon section). But in the mail are padded envelopes. Padded envelopes? Now, these kinds of things are normally the domain of secret agents dressed in trench coats at parks and they are normally filled with money or top secret documents. But now they arrive almost daily in the mail from people with equally strange covert code names like “Coups 4 U”, “Lisasmommy” and “FallenAngelOne”…..Are these really coupons?.

I have also had to learn a new language around the house. I already knew terms like “50 cents off” or “FREE”. But I did need reassurance that whatever a BOGO was that it was not painful or an instrument that Ringo Starr knows how to play.

Actually the new language is somewhat of a negative, along with the wife’s new perception of time. Here is a conversation that may sound familiar while she is in front of the computer.

Current time is 11:00 p.m.
Me: Coming to bed?
LMKIA: Yes in a minute.
Me: What are you working on?
LMKIA: Coups 4 U found a BOGO at Kroger for pizza but there is also a double Q going on at Meijer. I have some MQ’s as well which means I probably can do all this for $1 — AC/BC of course.
Me: Uh….Of course.LMKIA: Yeah, and RingosGirl was on Coupon Loop and found a redeemable at Lowes, but if I take my CATs and use some of my RR’s I can get in on an ECB deal
Me: Sounds good dear (ignoring the fact we only have one cat and I don’t think any store would take a 13 year old feline on a trade). See you in a minute then?
LMKIA: Yep in a minute, I’m just printing some IP’s (all the while not looking away from the screen).
Time is 11:02 p.m.

So I go to bed feeling like I just talked with the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoons, thinking that the wife will be along in a minute. What would you think? Anyway, at 2:30 a.m. I hear the wife enter the room and come to bed. That must have been some IP that needed printing I think in my half sleep haze.

But, despite the fact that I have no idea what my wife said, and we obviously did not spend anytime together that particular night, I get home the next day and find that we now have 25 multi meat pizzas, 20 rolls of paper towels, a 30 foot extension cord and a case of beer I normally can not afford. Of course like any man that suddenly discovers enough stuff to facilitate an NFL party I check the bank account. To my amazement there is only a $2 purchase that day at Meijer and a $10 purchase at McDonalds.

Me: Um…..$2 at Meijer?
LMKIA: Yeah, I know, sorry, they wouldn’t take one of my IP’s.
Me: Uh, OK. (trying to stay composed and not break down and cry at this messianic moment and quickly try to stifle my emotions. So I look for something to say or critique) And the $10 at McDonalds?

This warranted no verbal response from the wife. But I do get that look that say’s “Really? Are you kidding me?”

So we leave it at that.

Life since her majesty learned the way of coupons has been great. Really it is. Keep in mind that any relationship, especially marriage, there is an element of trust, and constant growth, learning and adaptation that goes on. Just like a spouse taking on a new job, new venture or going back to school, the relationship must grow and adapt in some way. No one expects the other spouse to know everything about the new “thing”, but showing an interest helps immensely. Yep, learning a new language to a certain degree may be necessary. But adapting to changes is key in any relationship and knowing that in every relationship there is give and take. Yes, there may be nights where you go to bed alone, or he/she goes missing for an entire day with only $5 in his/her pocket and a massive binder (what is that all about by the way?). But by communicating (especially any concerns) with one another and trusting that they know what they are doing leads to rewards. But that goes both ways ladies….and gents.

Oh yes, the pizzas are no longer on the diet.
